Status

Status is a measurement of a character’s social standing. Each status level is identified by a specific title that is assigned to a player.

Each player starts the campaign with a status. A player’s status affects how each NPC will interact with the player, the player-specific plotlines that a particular player will encounter, and the special items and/or abilities that may be available to a specific player.

In order for a player to determine his or her status, the player must choose one of the following factions: Kira, Neutralis, or Vitae. The player’s status is then determined by a roll of 1d20 plus the player’s charisma modifier.

A player may determine his or her status (and the advantages/disadvantages of each faction) by looking at the following tables:

Kira

Advantages:

  • At first level and every five levels after that (6th, 12th, etc.), you gain the ability to use the Kira Touch (Warlock’s Avernian Eruption spell once per day to a single target within 1 square.)
  • At 11th level and every five levels after that (16th, 21st, etc.), you gain the ability to use the Kiss of the Kira (Warlock’s Hurl Through Hell spell once per day to a single target within 1 square.)
  • Players with a status of Kai or higher may request reinforcements from the Kirakai to conduct raids and other Kira activities.
  • Access to the darker plotlines (Assassinations, Dark Rituals, etc.)

Disadvantages:

  • You are the sworn enemy of the Vitae. Vitae can identify you as Kira and they will attack you on sight.
  • Your metabolism has been distorted by Kayne’s dark magic. Spells that would typically heal other people will harm you and cleric spells that would typically harm other people heal you, potions have no effect on you (good or bad), and you are highly susceptible to the attacks of the Vitae.
  • Your aura has been tainted by your proximity to the rituals of the Kira. Celestials, Good Clerics, Good Paladins, and anyone with a strong link to the forces of light will be disgusted by you.
Roll Title Equivalent Noble Rank
21+ Priest/Priestess Duke/Duchess
20 Shadow Knight Marquis/Marquess
19 Kai Count/Countess
17 – 18 Kitar Baron/Baroness
11 – 16 Kira Knight Knight
5 – 10 Kira Peasant
1 – 4 Nera Slave

Neutralis

Advantages:

  • You are not involved in the War of Light and Dark. The Kira and the Vitae will ignore you as long as you stay out of their affairs.
  • Players with a status of Peasant or higher have access to the Grand Library of Bunkai. You may learn any ritual of your level or lower for the level of the spell times 10 GP (For example, a level 10 ritual will cost 100 GP to learn.)
  • Players with a status of Knight or higher may request reinforcements from the King to conduct activities for the crown.
  • You have access to some of the Kira and Vitae plotlines and you have access to several neutral plotlines.

Disadvantages:

  • Your life is of little meaning to the Kira (life has very little meaning to the Kira in general) and the Vitae (they have sworn to protect the weak, but the war is their current priority.) As a result, most of your people have been forced into slavery at the hands of the Kira, the less than pious members of the Vitae, or even your own people.
  • Your status is of less importance in the world than the statuses of the other factions as your people are caught in the middle of the War of Light and Dark, but not actually involved in it. As a result, your title carries a lot of weight (if you are a Knight or above) with your own people, but hardly any weight with other factions.
  • Your people will do all they can to aid you, but they can offer little protection from the forces of the Kira or Vitae if you anger them.
Roll Title Equivalent Noble Rank
23+ Prince/Princess High Priest/Priestess
22 Duke/Duchess Priest/Priestess
21 Count/Countess Kai/Vicar
19 – 20 Baron/Baroness Katar/Vitari
17 – 18 Knight Kira/Vitae Knight
15 – 16 Peasant Kira/Vitae
11 – 14 Indentured Servant Nera
1 – 10 Slave Nera

Vitae

Advantages:

  • At first level and every five levels after that (6th, 12th, etc.), you gain the ability to use the Vitae Touch (Cure Serious Wounds to a single target within 1 square once per day.)
  • At 11th level and every five levels after that (16th, 21st, etc.), you gain the ability to use the Kiss of the Vitae (Raise Dead ritual to a single target within 1 square once per day.)
  • Players with a status of Vicar or higher may request reinforcements from the Virakai to conduct raids and other Vitae activities.
  • Access to the good guy plotlines (Protecting Cities, Preventing Evil Rituals, Rescuing those in Distress, etc.)

Disadvantages:

  • You are the sworn enemy of the Kira. Kira can identify you as Vitae and they will attack you on sight.
  • You are the very embodiment of life itself. Cleric spells that would typically harm you deal 2d6 more damage and you are highly susceptible to the attacks of the Kira.
  • You are surrounded by an aura of shimmering light due to your proximity to the rituals of the Vitae. Evil creatures or anyone with a strong link to the forces of darkness will be disgusted by you.
